Ready For A New Racetrack in Calgary?
If you haven’t been able to keep up with the news, there’s been some exciting developments lately in the Calgary area – specifically, on a square mile of land north of the city. At the end of March, the county council of Mountain View, near Carstairs, voted to allow the land to be redesignated…and why is that important? Because it’s the first step towards a new racetrack coming to Calgary!
The Old Race City Speedway
Many Calgarians have fond memories of days spent out at the old race track at the southeast edge of the city limits. Race City Speedway opened in 1985 and for more than 25 years it gave lead-footed drivers a place to safely get the speed out of their systems. Featuring a quarter-mile drag strip, a half-mile oval, and a two-mile track, the facility hosted five major championship races and was a favourite getaway spot for drivers of high-end cars in the area. To much protest, it closed in 2011 with no replacement project in the works, and since then, drivers of fast European cars haven’t had a suitable place to really see what their vehicles can do.
So What's Next?
While this is just the first step in a long process, it’s welcome news to many Albertans who are itching to hit the asphalt at full throttle – in a safe and legal way. Rocky Mountain Motorsports, who is behind the entire initiative, has big plans to make this much more than just a few laps around a strip of pavement. Here’s what they’re hoping to do.
Alongside a circuit of more than five kilometres, they are also aiming to offer performance driving schools (and a police training academy), private and secure storage for high-end vehicles, staging and paddock areas, and more. They have outlined how they’ll help boost local businesses and charities, make streets safer, create jobs, and attract world-class events. All of this, and much more, can be found on their website. Take some time to look around!

BMW i Electric Cars in Calgary
While many people consider the revving engines of a high-end European vehicle to be the hallmark of a great car, a growing number of consumers are looking into ways to minimize their impact on the environment. It’s no longer just the fringe groups, either – recently, the entire country of Germany voted to ban gasoline and diesel vehicles by 2030! With the world trending towards more responsible and sustainable energy sources, but a vast amount of modern life dependent on motorized transportation, one field is pulling out far ahead of the rest: electric cars.
The term “electric car” might conjure up images of tiny smart cars, puttering along behind the luxurious European brands that you love. But over the last few years, ground-breaking research has led to massive innovations in speed, style, and sustainability, and nearly every major auto manufacturer now has some stakes in the game – including the ones that have reputation for engineering, luxury, and power.
BMW is one such brand. Known for their sleek designs and finely tuned engines, BMW got to work designing an all-electric, emission-free vehicle that wouldn’t compromise on quality…and the end result is the BMW i Series. These BMW i Electric Cars are turning heads and dropping jaws. They are truly high-end cars that you could swear had all the power of a regular gasoline engine.
BMW i Electric i3
The BMW i3, a locally emission-free vehicle designed for city driving, is a great example. It is engineered to complement city life, with its small size and 200+ km range off a single charge of its high-voltage 94 Ah lithium-ion battery. One of its most incredible features is its regenerative braking system, which – instead of using friction to stop, creating unwanted waste particles, heat, and wear – converts the motion of the car into stored energy, which is then fed back into the battery system and can used to extend the range even farther. Since the BMW i3 has excellent acceleration, that means every time you stop at an intersection or parking lot, some of the energy you just used is given back, to be used again.
BMW i Electric i8
Not a city driver, or maybe just looking for something even more stylish? The BMW i8 is the future of sports cars! This plug-in hybrid car has a lightweight carbon construction with an instantly-recognizable aerodynamic appearance. This one of the BMW i Electric Cars the perfect mix of form, fun, and function – a range of up to 600 km in EcoPro mode; able to go from a stop to 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds; a top speed of 250 km/h; and a fuel efficiency of up to 2.1 L/100 km. And with more than 10,000 sold around the world as of November 2016, it’s clear that this high-end luxury car is making a dent in the global market.

When buying a pre-owned vehicle, there are many considerations that a potential customer has to make before they put their money on the line. Aside from the obvious factors of colour, style, function, and budget, taking a look at the level of reconditioning on a vehicle is definitely worth a bit of extra time.
Vehicle reconditioning considers the mechanics, body, and frame of a vehicle and combines it with the knowledge and service of technicians in order to make it look and perform as close to new as it can get. This can involve cosmetic body work, engine tune-ups, replacing parts, full interior and exterior cleans, and much more. So how can you be sure that the shiny high-end car you’re looking at has received the proper care and maintenance?
First, you’ll want to check the inspection reports from the dealer, and look at the history of repair work done on the vehicle. They should match up, meaning that any issues found in the shop have been dealt with properly. Be sure to get an AMVIC Fitness Assessment Report from the dealer as well (legally, they must provide one for any pre-owned vehicle), which will vouch for the safety and roadworthiness of the vehicle itself. Take your time to look around the car and ensure it’s up to your satisfaction – inside it, outside it, under the hood, everywhere! Once you’ve confirmed that all issues from the reports have been fixed, hop in and go for a test drive. If you’ve chosen well, it should be just like driving away in a brand-new car off the lot!
Now, say you’re not the picky type, and you’re wondering why you should even bother getting a vehicle with a professional recondition. There are actually some tangible advantages to the process that will lend to your post-purchase peace of mind. For starters, there will be no costly surprises after the fact – all the work will have been done already, meaning you can spend more time joyriding and less time worried about rattles and shakes. You’ll know that you’ve bought a reliable car from a trustworthy dealership, which has delivered on their promises to give you a high-quality vehicle at a high level of integrity service. And beyond that, you’ll have a full report on any issues the car may have had in the past, which will allow you to target and perform better preventative maintenance that will stop such problems from reoccurring in the future. Overall, buying a high-end car that has been professionally reconditioned is an excellent way to save money in the long run and stay proactive about its performance and aesthetic appeal.
At Euroworks, we take pride in offering pre-owned European vehicles that have been restored to their full potential, and our knowledgeable and certified staff simply cannot be beat. Proper Batteries in European Vehicles
When you’ve spent the money on something nice, something luxurious – like a European Sports Car – you want to make sure that everything on it is of the highest quality. While items like Tires, chips, and every little nut and bolt are definitely important, it can be said that the most important Part of your high-end vehicle is the battery. After all, it gives your car its life and its power – without it, nothing else would even turn on.
It’s important to remember that batteries come in different styles, shapes, and qualities, just like everything else under the hood. But the designers of your car had an idea in mind when they built it, and they selected the battery that would perform best under those specifications. Because of this, we recommend replacing the battery with either OEM or Bosch batteries, as they are the only ones that can withstand all electrical charges – on start, while driving, and most importantly, when the ignition is off and the car is locked. Without this proper battery, not all vehicle functions will work correctly! By replacing a worn-out battery when necessary with a fresh, identically manufactured one, you can ensure that your luxury European vehicle stays running at its highest potential and that you’ll avoid costly and inconvenient problems down the road.
Bosch batteries are known for being of extremely high quality and craftsmanship, and for contributing to longevity in your engine – they are the only recommended alternative to the OEM battery if it is not available. At Euroworks, we primarily use Bosch batteries because of the quality they offer our customers.
So if you’re shopping for a topped-up, top-of-the-line battery for your European car, look no further than Euroworks right here in Calgary, Alberta. We carry a wide selection of parts for brands like BMW, Mercedes, Audi, and Porsche, and we’re ready to help six days a week for all your high-end vehicle needs!

Routine European Vehicle Service
Your car is one of the biggest investments you’ll make in your life. Even if it’s new, but especially if it’s previously owned, it’s important to protect that investment with proper maintenance.
Modern cars have complex and interconnected systems that rely on each other to function properly – if one section isn’t performing well, it will adversely affect the others. Everything from fluid levels and tire pressure to belt wear and line contamination will play a part in your car’s performance, and ultimately, its lifespan.
So what can you do to mitigate the wear and tear on your vehicle over the years? Well, if you only take a look under the hood when you’re aware of a problem, you could be causing invisible but long-term damage to the engine or the internal systems. But if you take a proactive approach that emphasizes small, routine maintenance instead of large emergency service, your high-end car will be roadworthy for many years to come.
Most people know that they need to change their oil every 8,000 kilometres or so, and that they need to swap their winter tires in different seasons. But those are only the very surface of what should be checked in any vehicle to ensure top performance – what about the spark plugs, air filters, differential, transmission and brake fluid, cables, hoses, or brake components? All of these are equally important, but aren’t immediately noticeable – and that’s why routine service is so crucial.
At Euroworks, we can perform full maintenance at major intervals on your luxury vehicle, in order to reduce future problems. On many modern cars, systems are built in to the vehicle itself that will notify you when it is time to bring it in for a check-up, or when an issue is detected. From the first oil change at 8,000 km to the milestones of 200,000 km or more, we are ready to help you get the most out of your investment. We do BMW, Mercedes, Mini, Porsche, Land Rover, Volvo, Audi, and other exotic brands – just give us a call to find out the schedule that best suits your vehicle’s needs and our skilled technicians will be happy to help you keep your engine running smoothly.
The BMW i8: Power, in a whole new way!
Usually when you think of an electric car, what comes to mind is something watered-down and weak – a car that might be good for a city commute, but lacks the power to really get you where you’re going. And now, with the sway of public opinion leaning firmly in the direction of an electric future, you have probably wondered: how can you drive with all the style of your luxury car, while taking advantage of current environmental considerations?
The engineers at BMW thought the same thing, and that’s why they designed the BMW i8.
Influenced by the retro look of the BMW M1 Hommage, the i8 is a hybrid sports car first released in 2014 that is reinventing the field of electric/fuel vehicles. It’s designed for fans of the BMW brand, and it shows: the engine can reach 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds, and its top speed is 250 km/h. Its fuel efficiency is 3.1 L/100 km in hybrid mode, and even at full gasoline consumption it only uses 8.1 L/100 km on the highway.
Much of the reason behind these specs is the technology put into the car’s construction. Instead of steel, the body is made from carbon-fiber reinforced plastic, which is strong yet very light; the body is optimized for aerodynamics; and the battery can even be partially recharged through braking, as energy given off from the friction is recaptured and stored. Such innovations at all levels make the BMW i8 a serious contender for the luxury hybrid champion.
Many of you might think it’s necessary to wait for more infrastructure to be developed before getting into the electric market – you may have heard that you need special charging stations set up in your city. Not for the i8! With the BMW i Wallbox, you can have quick connectivity available right at home – a full charge from one of these takes less than 4 hours!
So what are some other incentives to getting a hybrid vehicle now?
Well, as you may have noticed already – oil is a very volatile commodity. Price shifts can send gasoline prices jumping or crashing overnight, but the general trend is the same as any increasingly scarce resource – upwards! As more people get their own vehicles and demand increases, the reliance on oil and gasoline will be phased out over time. By getting a hybrid vehicle, you can minimize the impact this has on you – especially if the majority of your driving consists of short commutes within a city, like it does for most of us.
There’s much more to be said about the BMW i8 – and plenty of features to look at and admire as well. As always, if you find yourself in the driver’s seat, bring it down to Euroworks in Calgary for all your tune-ups, service, and specialized exotic car needs!
An important part of getting your vehicle to work at its top potential is making sure that it is properly maintained. Preventative maintenance can add years to the life of your vehicle, and ensure that every ride is smooth and satisfying.
But sometimes, despite everything, the inevitable can occur – moving parts and components can break down, both internally and externally. And in those instances, all the parts of your car should be checked over by a certified technician. This used to be a costly and time-consuming process as every part of your engine and structure had to be physically checked. Nowadays, though, most of these parts are electronically controlled and monitored by the vehicle electronic systems, which simplifies and streamlines everything. This is a key part of our Vehicle Diagnostic service!
Virtually every vehicle today comes with an electronic system designed to identify problems and control performance adjustments. In fact, without the correct electronic kits and diagnostic equipment, it can be impossible to properly service a modern vehicle. That’s why we’ve invested in some top-of-the-line equipment: so we are able to scan and diagnose trouble areas, as well as reading, coding, and reprogramming any of the components of the system. And the best part? All of our diagnostic tools are Dealer Equivalent: anything they can do, so can we!
And what is it that we do?
It’s not just after-the-fact fixing to consider (although we can definitely help with that!). Besides clearing fault codes and checking the integrity of different parts of the vehicle, we can use these tools to get real-time data on the overall performance of your engine. And from that, we can reprogram your electronic control unit (ECU) in order to boost your performance (check out our last blog entry for more information on that); we can send special commands to control units; and we can install updates with the latest software for European vehicles. And of course, when we’re finished, we’ll make sure to reset the service reminders, so that the car’s computer knows the work has been done, and can tell you when it should be looked at in the future.
You’ve spent a lot on your car, and you want to be sure it’s in good hands – and that when it comes back to you, it feels like you’ve gotten your money’s worth. That’s why, along with our full complement of services, we offer extras in our service department, like copies of diagnostic computer scans, and pictures of any damaged parts. And our biggest advantage is that we have high standards of excellence equivalent to the original dealer. We love these cars too, and that’s why we want them to be at their best for you.
So don’t wait to hear the telltale groans and noises from under the hood – bring your high-end vehicle to Euroworks today, and let us catch any trouble before it’s trouble.
For details on pricing, appointments, or any other questions about diagnostic tuning, you can call us at 403-291-6839 or email us at email@example.com today!
We live in a world run by computers. From the phones in our pockets to the servers on the stock market, nearly everything we use now has some connection to software and programming. And, of course, this includes modern cars.
For years now, high-end cars have come with a pre-installed computer chip that keeps track of what’s going on under the hood. While this is an important diagnostic tool – the chip can scan the engine and report any problems directly to you or the mechanics working on it – it has also become a way for manufacturers to limit the performance of your vehicle. This “detuning” of the engine protects it from careless drivers, poor maintenance, and low-quality fuel – but what happens when you really want to drive the car you bought? What if you want to push it as far as it can go and get your money’s worth?
Well, simply put….the only way is to tune the engine up to where it should be!
That’s where Euroworks comes in. Through our ECU (electronic control unit) tuning program, we can update the software in your car’s computer so that it runs better than ever. It involves no physical alterations to the vehicle, and only takes an hour or two – but the end results are easy to see: 10-15% improvement of fuel economy. Smoother, faster acceleration. Increased raw power. And removal of the speed limiter, so you can really feel the difference when you’re putting all those things together.
With our specialized software, our on-site certified technicians simply connect to the chip, update the necessary files, make sure everything is compatible and working properly…and that’s it! Just like that, your high-end car can reach the potential it was meant to have all along. While we’re doing that, we can even check the engine for any trouble before it becomes a major issue; we can reprogram keys, personalize vehicle settings, reset fault codes, and more. It’s an all-in-one package that will have you feeling like you’ve got a whole new car!
And right now is the time to get it tuned up, in preparation for warmer weather ahead. Contact us today so we can help you get the maximum power and performance you paid for!
Vehicle systems these days can get complex very quickly. There are dozens of belts, hoses, fuses, gears and chips and connectors….and even the smallest hiccups can be responsible for bigger problems. One of the biggest issues with vehicles today, though, is easily manageable, even though it is almost imperceptible – but it has a huge effect on your performance.
After all, how often do you check your Tire Pressure?
The pressure in your tires, when set to factory specifications, is calculated to enhance and ensure the best gas mileage, wearability, traction, and stopping power in your vehicle. When the tires are over- or under-inflated, it can have cumulative effects on your Engine, safety, and much more.
For example, an under-inflated tire will flatten out where it contacts the road; this causes a loss of steering control, as well as bending on the sidewalls, a build-up of internal heat, and increased rolling resistance – all of which can add up to a 5% loss in Fuel Economy. If it is more than 6 psi below the recommended pressure, your treads will lose up to a quarter of their durability and there is even a chance of tire failure. However, an over-inflated tire isn’t much better. They will take more damage from debris and potholes, and ride harsher over irregular terrain. With all of the rapid temperature fluctuations we are so accustomed to here in Calgary... you had better be sure you are on top of having your tires properly inflated!
So how can you make sure your tires are properly filled?
The first step is to get a quality air pressure gauge, as it is nearly impossible to judge a tire’s pressure just by looking at it. Look at the sidewall of the tire to find out what the recommended pressure is, and compare that to the reading on the gauge. If necessary, use an air compressor with a suitable tip to fill your tires, periodically checking the pressure as you go. If you overshoot the target, don’t worry – just push the centre pin of the tire’s valve in order to let some air out. Repeat for all four tires, and just like that, you’ll have increased your Fuel Efficiency and safety on the road!
It’s a feeling that never gets old: heading out your door in the morning and seeing your shiny BMW waiting for you, ready to get on the road. Sleek, powerful, and luxurious, your BMW is like another member of your family, and of course, you want to keep it in top shape for maximum performance.
As with any vehicle, this entails an attentive eye both around the car and under the hood. With a bit of foresight, you can prevent major issues from occurring – but the fact is, every car manufacturer has a different set of guidelines and techniques, and BMW is no exception. In order to get the most out of it, you’ll need to get it looked at by a mechanic who’s properly trained – and luckily for you, they work at Euroworks!
We have a specific list of tune-ups, inspections, and general maintenance that are meant for the BMW brand, and are uniquely qualified to deliver it. Some of the services we offer are:
BMW Intermediate Oil Service: Frequent and relatively inexpensive, your Service Interval System will tell you when you need an oil change. If in doubt, a good guideline is to get one every 8,000 – 10,000 km. At Euroworks, we’ll use the right tools, the right lubricants, and do it the right way from start to finish, every time.
BMW Oil & Safety Service: A bit more in-depth, this includes the oil change and filter, as well as a safety check of your entire vehicle. This is a great check-up before any long trips, as it tests your brakes, indicator and dashboard lights, belts and hoses, fluids, steering, leaks, as well as your suspension. You can drive in peace knowing that we’ve given it a proper inspection!
BMW Inspection 1: Also called the “Minor Service”, this inspection is recommended by BMW at certain odometer intervals, just to make sure everything is working as well as it should. On older models (1986-1998), it is advised to have one done at 32,000, 100,000, and 175,000 km; for 1999 and later models, stop in at 50,000, 150,000, and 225,000 km. At just $200 (plus any parts/labour), it’s a great way to keep your BMW in prime condition.
BMW Inspection 2: Also known as the “Major Service”, this is recommended by BMW as a corollary to the Minor Service. More in depth and thorough (but still cost-effective at just $250 + parts/labour), it ensures that you won’t have any unforeseen problems when you’re out enjoying your drives! For the older models (as above), come in at 65,000, 125,000, and 200,000 km; for post-1999 vehicles, see us at 100,000 and 200,000 km.
If your BMW has a Condition Based Service (CBS) system, it will keep you aware of many of your components and engine fluid levels as time goes on, and alert you when it’s time to bring your car in for service. By staying on top of these, you can keep driving your BMW for years to come – and with the right mechanics doing the work, you’ll be even more at ease.
