Why Do European Vehicles Require Special Oil?

Why Do European Vehicles Require Special Oil?

TLDR:  For many reasons including stricter emissions standards in Europe and the fact that European vehicles are typically designed to require less frequent oil changes and therefore the oil used must have special additives to help facilitate that.

If you’ve laid down the money for a high-end vehicle from a European manufacturer, you want to make sure you’re giving it the best possible treatment. This means regular washes to get rid of road chemicals and debris, high-octane fuel…and even special engine oil.

Many people don’t know it, but it’s true: European vehicles require different oil than American ones, and using the wrong kind for your car oil change could lead to big problems down the road. But even more people don’t know why this is. Here are a few common reasons that any luxury car owner in Canada should keep in mind.

Less Frequent Engine Oil Changes

The general standard in North America between oil service – depending on the exact type of synthetic oil used – is somewhere between 5,000 and 8,000 km. However, European vehicles are designed to make it up to 16,000 km before they need an oil and filter change. This comes down to the price of the oil, as well as different manufacturer expectations and recommendations, and means that the motor oil used in Europe better protects against build-up and corrosion for a longer time.

Stop Going To The Big Dealerships For Diagnostics

Stop Going To The Big Dealerships For Diagnostics!

An important part of getting your vehicle to work at its top potential is making sure that it is properly maintained. Preventative maintenance can add years to the life of your vehicle, and ensure that every ride is smooth and satisfying.

But sometimes, despite everything, the inevitable can occur – moving parts and components can break down, both internally and externally. And in those instances, all the parts of your car should be checked over by a certified technician. This used to be a costly and time-consuming process as every part of your engine and structure had to be physically checked. Nowadays, though, most of these parts are electronically controlled and monitored by the vehicle electronic systems, which simplifies and streamlines everything. This is a key part of our Vehicle Diagnostic service!

How to increase fuel-efficiency and safety quickly!

TLDR:  Increase fuel-efficiency and safety quickly by dialling your tire pressure in to the proper range for your vehicle’s specifications.

Vehicle systems these days can get complex very quickly.  There are dozens of belts, hoses, fuses, gears and chips and connectors….and even the smallest hiccups can be responsible for bigger problems.  One of the biggest issues with vehicles today, though, is easily manageable, even though it is almost imperceptible – but it has a huge effect on your performance.

After all, how often do you check your Tire Pressure?

The pressure in your tires, when set to factory specifications, is calculated to enhance and ensure the best gas mileage, wearability, traction, and stopping power in your vehicle.  When the tires are over- or under-inflated, it can have cumulative effects on your Engine, safety, and much more.
