An Introduction To Paint Protection Film For Cars
Car wrap is simply the process of applying large sheets of vinyl to your car to change its color and create a totally new and refreshed look. The vinyl completely covers the paintwork of your car, protecting it from abrasions and stone chips caused by general wear and tear. If any part of the car gets damaged for any reason, the vinyl can be easily repaired or replaced. A popular example of a car wrap is paint protection film, also known as PPF.
Here at Euroworks, we have a good selection of styles of film as well as multiple packages for the placement of film (i.e. front bumper, full vehicle, etc.)
What is a Paint Protection Film (PPF)?
Also known as Clear Bra, Paint Protection Film is the most complete form of protection you can give your vehicle to protect it from scratches, chemical stains, rock chips, and several other environmental hazards.
The major purpose of using a paint protection film is to prevent rock chips, scuffs, and other types of damages which can destroy a vehicle's paint and body. While it is mostly applied to the front part of cars, it can also be used on the full body of the car to provide maximum protection for the vehicle's factory paint.
Some examples of paint protection films brands include XPEL, LLumar Platinum/SunTek Ultra, 3M, etc. At Euroworks, we make use of XPEL (XPEL Ultimate Plus PPF and XPEL Stealth PPF) which is considered a leader in automotive paint protective films because of their innovative technology.
If you are looking for a professional car wrapping service in Calgary, southern Alberta, you definitely need to check out our work today. The selections that we offer our customers are also self-healing paint protection film (PPF) so you can rest assured your car will look its best for a very long time.
Uses of Paint Protection Films
Paint protection film can also be used on the non-painted parts of the car apart from the painted areas. For example, it can be applied to plastic headlight and taillight covers to protect them from scratches or to tint them for added style. It will also help to protect these parts from cracking and will hold the covers intact if they do become damaged. Presently, people are also finding innovative new uses for it like protecting their expensive new cell phones.
Benefits of Paint Protection Films
Though the protective film can be applied by anyone with some skill and a degree of patience, the best results will always be obtained by a professional car wrap service like we offer here at Euroworks. The reason is that we have all the facilities and experience to apply the clear film in a clean environment, which is very important.
While applying the film yourself it is important to know that any dust or dirt on the paint will be trapped there until the film is removed and this can make the film wear out quickly and look terrible. Since most do-it-yourself people don't have the necessary facilities or a trained eye, it is wise to contact the pros to do it right.

Do Not Bring Us Car Parts From Online
With the rise of sites like Amazon and EBay, it can be more tempting than ever to try and “shop around” for the best prices on the parts that you need to maintain your luxury vehicle. You can look at reviews for the seller, compare prices instantly, and hopefully keep more of your money in your pocket. Easy, right?
Well….not so fast!
When it comes to car parts, any good owner (and mechanic) knows that cheap and easy is usually anything but. By trying to save a few dollars online, you may end up paying more over the long run because of unforeseen circumstances that often – very often – arise as a result.
The biggest problems? You don’t have a warranty, and you cannot check to 100% verify that it’s the correct part.
You may find a part online for pennies, but what the sellers often fail to mention is that there is no warranty with those parts – and you may not find that out until it’s far too late to do anything about it! The quality of parts bought from websites is generally far less than you’d expect at a reputable shop, and by the time you have bought it, waited for it, and brought it to the shop to have it installed, only to find out that it’s defective, it’s been a big waste of time and money – and you’re likely out of luck on trying to remedy the situation. The same goes for if the part doesn’t fit, or doesn’t have the right connector, or doesn’t meet the proper legal specifications, or any of the other problems that can occur.
And speaking of having the wrong part, it can end up costing more than just the money you’ve sunk into the part itself. Chances are, you won’t discover that it’s wrong until your vehicle is already up on the hoist with the original problem part removed; that means it’s staying up there until the right part is available and the vehicle can move again, which involves days of calling people, confirming part numbers, paying again, shipping, and so on…and all the while, you’ll be racking up charges for the hoist that’s now out of service, which can add up to about thousand per day! That is a major headache and a huge price to pay for wanting to save a bit of cash by shopping online.
So, long story short? Always buy your parts in person so that you can check the quality and verify that they’re accurate before you buy. It takes a bit more time but it’s absolutely worth it in the end. And to have the most hassle-free experience possible, skip the dealerships altogether – they are your last resort. Instead, visit Euroworks, right here in northeast Calgary, Alberta, for all the answers and information you need about keeping your high-end vehicles, European cars, and other luxury brands in the best possible condition. We are your dealer alternative, and we look forward to helping you – now and in the future!
Has anyone ever told you, “If you want the best service for your vehicle, you have to go to the dealership?”
And if so…did that person work at a dealership?
It’s a well-known fact that dealerships want to get your money. There are mark-ups, hidden fees, service charges, and just plain high prices on a lot of products and services. So why stay loyal to a place that simply wants to get as much money from you as possible? The short answer is – don’t.
Euroworks is your dealer alternative, because we offer everything that they do (and a little more) – but we do it more affordably and with more customization that works for you. We are proud to be Calgary’s best choice for all kinds of high-performance vehicle tune ups and service work, and here’s why.
We are not beholden to a parent company that demands exorbitant prices, markups, and target quotas, which means our prices are better and the savings are passed on to you, on everything from oil filters to major engine overhauls. Our staff is comprised of ex-dealer technicians who have plenty of experience working on the cars that we see, and who have been specifically trained to do the necessary work to keep the engines running their best. We even carry high-end equipment and diagnostic tools that are equivalent to all the OEM parts found at dealerships, and furthermore, we often have performance parts that are better than OEM parts – all of which are compatible with your high-end European vehicle. All in all, we have the same, or sometimes better, quality service than you would find at a dealership.
Because we are a locally-run and family-owned shop, we have far less overhead than a major corporation, giving us yet another way to save you money. We also offer the ability to have direct conversations with our service advisors, who are there on site to explain what your vehicle will need (and not, might we add, to try and convince you to do totally unnecessary extra work!). We even honour third-party warranties so that you get the most out of the money you’ve already spent.
In some instances, we can even go beyond the dealerships – we can offer performance tuning to get your car up to its full potential, and we can get you different options and pricing on new or used parts as well. We also do ECU tuning and ECU repairs – something that dealerships probably won’t even go near!
As always, we have our customers’ priorities ahead of our profits – our customers are people, and not just walking dollar signs. We rely on good word of mouth and referrals to keep our business going, not shady practices and overcharging for basic work. And so far it’s been going pretty well, as we’ve been proudly open in Calgary for over 24 years!
Next time you need work done on your high-end, high-performance European car, avoid the hassle of the dealership and come to Euroworks instead. We are committed to customer service and creating repeat clients with our transparent work policies and our dedicated, knowledgeable staff. Come and see what your dealer alternative can do for you, and how you can save time and money when you get your car fixed in Calgary, Alberta! We are conveniently located just off the Trans-Canada Highway, at 2341 20 Ave NE. We look forward to getting you back on the road and helping your engine reach its full performance potential!
What's the future of Augmented Reality in Cars?
Imagine a car from the early part of the 20th century: no power steering, no enclosed cabin, no self-starting ability…the list goes on. While it would certainly make high-speed getaways more entertaining if we still had to hand-crank our engines, it's undeniable that technology has made our cars better in more ways than we can count.
As engines have progressed to become faster, more powerful, and more efficient, the rest of the vehicle has also improved. Most recently, with the advent of computers, processors, and portable and adaptable displays, it has become possible to give drivers more tools than ever before while they're on the road. These can range from safety features and warnings, to itinerary information, to on-the-go entertainment that helps keep bored passengers happy. Once restricted to dashboards and overhead fold-down screens, a new development is now bringing all of this potential together in a futuristic way - by using windshields equipped with augmented reality HUDs (heads-up displays).
Augmented reality refers to the use of technology to overlay a display screen with additional information - like, for example, using virtual reality goggles to see things that aren't actually real. When applied to cars, the possibilities are endless - you can now see, in real time and with perfect vision directly in your eyeline, many helpful details that used to be scattered around your dashboard. Route information, upcoming turns from your GPS guidance, potential collision risks, lane drift warnings, song details, and more are all now fully visible without having to take your eyes off the road. You can even sync them with your smartphone, to allow a fully integrated experience. Would you like to see restaurant star ratings above the actual restaurants as you pull up to them? What if you could see a display appear above the vehicles around you that listed the name of who it is registered to? Would you consider that an invasion of privacy or would you like it? It's easy to see a future where people can make modifications to these systems and it will feel like we're driving in a video game. Real world Mario Kart anyone? ...just kidding. (kinda)
When you invest a lot of money into a high-end car, you want it to have top of the line technology - which is why many luxury vehicles now have these augmented reality displays built-in. And where is the best place in Calgary to get high-end European cars? Right here at Euroworks! Ready For A New Racetrack in Calgary?
If you haven’t been able to keep up with the news, there’s been some exciting developments lately in the Calgary area – specifically, on a square mile of land north of the city. At the end of March, the county council of Mountain View, near Carstairs, voted to allow the land to be redesignated…and why is that important? Because it’s the first step towards a new racetrack coming to Calgary!
The Old Race City Speedway
Many Calgarians have fond memories of days spent out at the old race track at the southeast edge of the city limits. Race City Speedway opened in 1985 and for more than 25 years it gave lead-footed drivers a place to safely get the speed out of their systems. Featuring a quarter-mile drag strip, a half-mile oval, and a two-mile track, the facility hosted five major championship races and was a favourite getaway spot for drivers of high-end cars in the area. To much protest, it closed in 2011 with no replacement project in the works, and since then, drivers of fast European cars haven’t had a suitable place to really see what their vehicles can do.
So What's Next?
While this is just the first step in a long process, it’s welcome news to many Albertans who are itching to hit the asphalt at full throttle – in a safe and legal way. Rocky Mountain Motorsports, who is behind the entire initiative, has big plans to make this much more than just a few laps around a strip of pavement. Here’s what they’re hoping to do.
Alongside a circuit of more than five kilometres, they are also aiming to offer performance driving schools (and a police training academy), private and secure storage for high-end vehicles, staging and paddock areas, and more. They have outlined how they’ll help boost local businesses and charities, make streets safer, create jobs, and attract world-class events. All of this, and much more, can be found on their website. Take some time to look around!

BMW i Electric Cars in Calgary
While many people consider the revving engines of a high-end European vehicle to be the hallmark of a great car, a growing number of consumers are looking into ways to minimize their impact on the environment. It’s no longer just the fringe groups, either – recently, the entire country of Germany voted to ban gasoline and diesel vehicles by 2030! With the world trending towards more responsible and sustainable energy sources, but a vast amount of modern life dependent on motorized transportation, one field is pulling out far ahead of the rest: electric cars.
The term “electric car” might conjure up images of tiny smart cars, puttering along behind the luxurious European brands that you love. But over the last few years, ground-breaking research has led to massive innovations in speed, style, and sustainability, and nearly every major auto manufacturer now has some stakes in the game – including the ones that have reputation for engineering, luxury, and power.
BMW is one such brand. Known for their sleek designs and finely tuned engines, BMW got to work designing an all-electric, emission-free vehicle that wouldn’t compromise on quality…and the end result is the BMW i Series. These BMW i Electric Cars are turning heads and dropping jaws. They are truly high-end cars that you could swear had all the power of a regular gasoline engine.
BMW i Electric i3
The BMW i3, a locally emission-free vehicle designed for city driving, is a great example. It is engineered to complement city life, with its small size and 200+ km range off a single charge of its high-voltage 94 Ah lithium-ion battery. One of its most incredible features is its regenerative braking system, which – instead of using friction to stop, creating unwanted waste particles, heat, and wear – converts the motion of the car into stored energy, which is then fed back into the battery system and can used to extend the range even farther. Since the BMW i3 has excellent acceleration, that means every time you stop at an intersection or parking lot, some of the energy you just used is given back, to be used again.
BMW i Electric i8
Not a city driver, or maybe just looking for something even more stylish? The BMW i8 is the future of sports cars! This plug-in hybrid car has a lightweight carbon construction with an instantly-recognizable aerodynamic appearance. This one of the BMW i Electric Cars the perfect mix of form, fun, and function – a range of up to 600 km in EcoPro mode; able to go from a stop to 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds; a top speed of 250 km/h; and a fuel efficiency of up to 2.1 L/100 km. And with more than 10,000 sold around the world as of November 2016, it’s clear that this high-end luxury car is making a dent in the global market.
Want to be ahead of the curve when it comes to the future of European cars? Euroworks, located at 2341 20 Ave NE in Calgary, Alberta, is the place to go! We look forward to seeing you in the showroom!
When buying a pre-owned vehicle, there are many considerations that a potential customer has to make before they put their money on the line. Aside from the obvious factors of colour, style, function, and budget, taking a look at the level of reconditioning on a vehicle is definitely worth a bit of extra time.
Vehicle reconditioning considers the mechanics, body, and frame of a vehicle and combines it with the knowledge and service of technicians in order to make it look and perform as close to new as it can get. This can involve cosmetic body work, engine tune-ups, replacing parts, full interior and exterior cleans, and much more. So how can you be sure that the shiny high-end car you’re looking at has received the proper care and maintenance?
First, you’ll want to check the inspection reports from the dealer, and look at the history of repair work done on the vehicle. They should match up, meaning that any issues found in the shop have been dealt with properly. Be sure to get an AMVIC Fitness Assessment Report from the dealer as well (legally, they must provide one for any pre-owned vehicle), which will vouch for the safety and roadworthiness of the vehicle itself. Take your time to look around the car and ensure it’s up to your satisfaction – inside it, outside it, under the hood, everywhere! Once you’ve confirmed that all issues from the reports have been fixed, hop in and go for a test drive. If you’ve chosen well, it should be just like driving away in a brand-new car off the lot!
Now, say you’re not the picky type, and you’re wondering why you should even bother getting a vehicle with a professional recondition. There are actually some tangible advantages to the process that will lend to your post-purchase peace of mind. For starters, there will be no costly surprises after the fact – all the work will have been done already, meaning you can spend more time joyriding and less time worried about rattles and shakes. You’ll know that you’ve bought a reliable car from a trustworthy dealership, which has delivered on their promises to give you a high-quality vehicle at a high level of integrity service. And beyond that, you’ll have a full report on any issues the car may have had in the past, which will allow you to target and perform better preventative maintenance that will stop such problems from reoccurring in the future. Overall, buying a high-end car that has been professionally reconditioned is an excellent way to save money in the long run and stay proactive about its performance and aesthetic appeal.
At Euroworks, we take pride in offering pre-owned European vehicles that have been restored to their full potential, and our knowledgeable and certified staff simply cannot be beat. Proper Batteries in European Vehicles
When you’ve spent the money on something nice, something luxurious – like a European Sports Car – you want to make sure that everything on it is of the highest quality. While items like Tires, chips, and every little nut and bolt are definitely important, it can be said that the most important Part of your high-end vehicle is the battery. After all, it gives your car its life and its power – without it, nothing else would even turn on.
It’s important to remember that batteries come in different styles, shapes, and qualities, just like everything else under the hood. But the designers of your car had an idea in mind when they built it, and they selected the battery that would perform best under those specifications. Because of this, we recommend replacing the battery with either OEM or Bosch batteries, as they are the only ones that can withstand all electrical charges – on start, while driving, and most importantly, when the ignition is off and the car is locked. Without this proper battery, not all vehicle functions will work correctly! By replacing a worn-out battery when necessary with a fresh, identically manufactured one, you can ensure that your luxury European vehicle stays running at its highest potential and that you’ll avoid costly and inconvenient problems down the road.
Bosch batteries are known for being of extremely high quality and craftsmanship, and for contributing to longevity in your engine – they are the only recommended alternative to the OEM battery if it is not available. At Euroworks, we primarily use Bosch batteries because of the quality they offer our customers.
So if you’re shopping for a topped-up, top-of-the-line battery for your European car, look no further than Euroworks right here in Calgary, Alberta. We carry a wide selection of parts for brands like BMW, Mercedes, Audi, and Porsche, and we’re ready to help six days a week for all your high-end vehicle needs!
Call our parts department at 403.291.6839, or visit us in-store at 2341 20 Ave NE in Calgary!
Routine European Vehicle Service
Your car is one of the biggest investments you’ll make in your life. Even if it’s new, but especially if it’s previously owned, it’s important to protect that investment with proper maintenance.
Modern cars have complex and interconnected systems that rely on each other to function properly – if one section isn’t performing well, it will adversely affect the others. Everything from fluid levels and tire pressure to belt wear and line contamination will play a part in your car’s performance, and ultimately, its lifespan.
So what can you do to mitigate the wear and tear on your vehicle over the years? Well, if you only take a look under the hood when you’re aware of a problem, you could be causing invisible but long-term damage to the engine or the internal systems. But if you take a proactive approach that emphasizes small, routine maintenance instead of large emergency service, your high-end car will be roadworthy for many years to come.
Most people know that they need to change their oil every 8,000 kilometres or so, and that they need to swap their winter tires in different seasons. But those are only the very surface of what should be checked in any vehicle to ensure top performance – what about the spark plugs, air filters, differential, transmission and brake fluid, cables, hoses, or brake components? All of these are equally important, but aren’t immediately noticeable – and that’s why routine service is so crucial.
At Euroworks, we can perform full maintenance at major intervals on your luxury vehicle, in order to reduce future problems. On many modern cars, systems are built in to the vehicle itself that will notify you when it is time to bring it in for a check-up, or when an issue is detected. From the first oil change at 8,000 km to the milestones of 200,000 km or more, we are ready to help you get the most out of your investment. We do BMW, Mercedes, Mini, Porsche, Land Rover, Volvo, Audi, and other exotic brands – just give us a call to find out the schedule that best suits your vehicle’s needs and our skilled technicians will be happy to help you keep your engine running smoothly.
The BMW i8: Power, in a whole new way!
Usually when you think of an electric car, what comes to mind is something watered-down and weak – a car that might be good for a city commute, but lacks the power to really get you where you’re going. And now, with the sway of public opinion leaning firmly in the direction of an electric future, you have probably wondered: how can you drive with all the style of your luxury car, while taking advantage of current environmental considerations?
The engineers at BMW thought the same thing, and that’s why they designed the BMW i8.
Influenced by the retro look of the BMW M1 Hommage, the i8 is a hybrid sports car first released in 2014 that is reinventing the field of electric/fuel vehicles. It’s designed for fans of the BMW brand, and it shows: the engine can reach 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds, and its top speed is 250 km/h. Its fuel efficiency is 3.1 L/100 km in hybrid mode, and even at full gasoline consumption it only uses 8.1 L/100 km on the highway.
Much of the reason behind these specs is the technology put into the car’s construction. Instead of steel, the body is made from carbon-fiber reinforced plastic, which is strong yet very light; the body is optimized for aerodynamics; and the battery can even be partially recharged through braking, as energy given off from the friction is recaptured and stored. Such innovations at all levels make the BMW i8 a serious contender for the luxury hybrid champion.
Many of you might think it’s necessary to wait for more infrastructure to be developed before getting into the electric market – you may have heard that you need special charging stations set up in your city. Not for the i8! With the BMW i Wallbox, you can have quick connectivity available right at home – a full charge from one of these takes less than 4 hours!
So what are some other incentives to getting a hybrid vehicle now?
Well, as you may have noticed already – oil is a very volatile commodity. Price shifts can send gasoline prices jumping or crashing overnight, but the general trend is the same as any increasingly scarce resource – upwards! As more people get their own vehicles and demand increases, the reliance on oil and gasoline will be phased out over time. By getting a hybrid vehicle, you can minimize the impact this has on you – especially if the majority of your driving consists of short commutes within a city, like it does for most of us.
There’s much more to be said about the BMW i8 – and plenty of features to look at and admire as well. As always, if you find yourself in the driver’s seat, bring it down to Euroworks in Calgary for all your tune-ups, service, and specialized exotic car needs!
