What's the future of Augmented Reality in Cars?
Imagine a car from the early part of the 20th century: no power steering, no enclosed cabin, no self-starting ability…the list goes on. While it would certainly make high-speed getaways more entertaining if we still had to hand-crank our engines, it's undeniable that technology has made our cars better in more ways than we can count.
As engines have progressed to become faster, more powerful, and more efficient, the rest of the vehicle has also improved. Most recently, with the advent of computers, processors, and portable and adaptable displays, it has become possible to give drivers more tools than ever before while they're on the road. These can range from safety features and warnings, to itinerary information, to on-the-go entertainment that helps keep bored passengers happy. Once restricted to dashboards and overhead fold-down screens, a new development is now bringing all of this potential together in a futuristic way - by using windshields equipped with augmented reality HUDs (heads-up displays).
