What To Know About Winter Tires in Calgary
Have you ever slid down 14th Street NW by Confederation Park on a cold winter day? Or been stuck in the hills of Mount Royal and Bankview, unsure if you’ll clear the piles of snow that line the streets? It doesn’t take much for drivers here to realize that in Alberta, winter tires are a must. In Calgary, winter tires can be the difference between a safe ride home and a frustrating delay on a freeway or through the suburbs.

Ready For A New Racetrack in Calgary?
If you haven’t been able to keep up with the news, there’s been some exciting developments lately in the Calgary area – specifically, on a square mile of land north of the city. In 2017, the county council of Mountain View, near Carstairs, voted to allow the land to be redesignated…and now we’re excited to announce that construction has begun on a new racetrack for Calgary!
The Old Race City Speedway
Many Calgarians have fond memories of days spent out at the old race track at the southeast edge of the city limits. Race City Speedway opened in 1985 and for more than 25 years it gave lead-footed drivers a place to safely get the speed out of their systems. Featuring a quarter-mile drag strip, a half-mile oval, and a two-mile track, the facility hosted five major championship races and was a favourite getaway spot for drivers of high-end cars in the area. To much protest, it closed in 2011 with no replacement project in the works, and since then, drivers of fast European cars haven’t had a suitable place to really see what their vehicles can do.
