When to Change Transmission Fluid
We recommend to change your European Transmission Fluid every 2 years or 100,000km, whichever comes first.

How Much Does it Cost?
Every vehicle is different in terms of pricing; which will include a filter change and new transmission fluid (most European cars use lifetime fluid which still needs to be replaced as all oils do breakdown).

How to Check:
Best way to keep track is within your records book. If you are still unsure we should definitely get the vehicle booked in and check the fluid.

Benefits
- Longer transmission life
- No shifting issues
- No gearing issues, which would lead to replacement of transmission

Recommendation
Should I do this service when it's recommended?  Yes, definitely, regardless of whether you have a manual or an automatic transmission.

About Servicing your European Transmission

Transmission Problems: Whether you have a manual or automatic transmission in your car, problems are inevitable; as the car ages it should be given attention once discrepancies are observed. Such problems may include hesitation, lag in shifting, or abnormal noises that stem from the transmission itself. Most problems could be prevented if the owner exercised a modicum of care in use and maintenance of the car. Whatever the occurrence, any problems that may persist or any unusual activity observed in the transmission should be consulted with our Euroworks service center at the earliest possible time. Simple adjustments or a simple change in transmission oil will solve most problems and one of our experts and honest mechanics can give you the whole picture upon inspection.

When To Do Transmission Service: Unlike booking general European car service, knowing when to book transmission service will depend on a lot of factors, such as ambient temperature when driving, overall mileage and the kind of car you drive as manufacturers recommend changing your transmission oil every 50,000km to 100,000km.

Transmission Maintenance: The transmission is a sealed system and a significant amount of fluid loss will indicate a leak. Pop open the hood and pull out the dipstick to check for proper fluid level and condition, some of the European vehicles have electronic check, Mercedes Benz have Service dipstick and other cars are checked in different ways. When checking the fluid add transmission oil when necessary, but remember not to add too much, Calgary!

Periodic maintenance according to manufacturers recommendations should be followed to prolong the service life of any car. It is good practice to check the oil in your transmission every time you check the oil in the engine.

Benefits of Servicing your Transmission

Manual: In a manual transmission, the problem is not so much the fluid degradation, but rather fluid contamination. This contamination occurs over time as the synchronizers, bearings, and gears in the transmission wear out. The resulting metal particles then float around in the lubricant. And we all know that oil with microscopic particles of metal in it does NOT lubricate as well as clean oil. So if these contaminants are not drained out, they will shorten the life of your transmission. Benefits include a longer transmission life, clean shifts, and no gearing issues.  Most manufacturers recommend that manual transmission fluid be changed every 100,000km. Under heavy-duty use, some manufacturers suggest changing transmission fluid as often as every 25,000km.

Automatic: Because more heat is generated in an automatic transmission, automatic transmission fluid actually degrades and breaks down with use. Service intervals for an automatic transmission vary from every 50,000km to 100,000km. The typical service interval is 100,000km or every two to three years. Changing it more often does no harm. Some European Car Manufactures suggest that it should never be done and we strongly disagree with this statement, as fluids do breakdown and excessive wear causes internal issues which furthermore can lead to a bigger invoice when at shop.  It is better to talk to a Euroworks expert and avoid the large costs in the future.  Benefits include smoother shifts, no gearing issues, and a longer transmission life!

It's important to regularly check the transmission fluid level between service intervals. Letting your car run low on transmission fluid can cause the transmission to shift improperly — or not at all. It can also harm the internal parts of your transmission, which will not be properly lubricated. Unfortunately, you may not hear any noises or have other clues that your transmission is low on fluid, until it's too late. So it's important to make a habit of getting it checked.
